Like some of the other states which share its geographic make-up, Montana’s rural nature limits access to key health care provisions, making its current nursing shortage an even more dire situation. The state simply doesn’t have enough physician assistants and nurse practitioners to work in geographically-challenged areas. But the state additionally faces another significant cause of nursing shortage: a veteran workforce.
Although veteran nurses are currently employed, upcoming retirement opportunities will require qualified professionals to replace them.
